Hunter Clark Hunter has some of the neatest sketchbooks you'll ever see. He's a great cartoonist and most of his people have mosquito noses. One Percent Press Run by Stephen Floyd and cartoonist J.P. Coovert, One Percent Press is a small press publisher that has lovingly made minicomics and books, as well as music. Their catalogue includes works by Linda Medley and Hope Larson. Joey Weiser You can see Joey's stories in the last couple FLIGHT anthologies, and he has quite a few on his website as well. His minis are great; pick them up if you get the chance. Drew Weing Drew is probably the best draftsman of our generation - his penwork is playful and gorgeous. If you don't believe me, check out his latest, Set to Sea. Alec Longstreth Genuinely the nicest and most enthusiastic guy in comics. His phase 7 comics are great reads, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a stauncher defender of the form. Matthew Bernier Yet another amazing artist. Read his tin woodsman story. It's great. Eleanor Davis Her eerie and beautiful drawings are like dreams on paper. Andy Runton The creator of Owly, fellow Atlantan, and really nice guy. Aaron Renier The creator of Spiral-Bound. You've read Spiral-Bound, I hope! I haven't met him yet, but that shouldn't stop you from reading his comics. Lunchbox Funnies An all-ages collective of comics featuring, among others, works by Dean Trippe and Dave Roman. Chris Wright Yet another SCAD grad. His crosshatching makes children cry. My Dad Composer and novelist Mark G. Schweizer. Not a cartoonist, but a big influence nonetheless. |
